Purpose



Contributes to the overall success of the Operational Control in the U.K.ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Providing support to Global Wholesale Operations, London through the production of management information and reconciliation control processes for the business lines operating under the London based entities.

The incumbent is responsible for assisting with creating and providing an infrastructure facilitating the management and control of Global Wholesale Operations, London through the efficient and effective production of Management Information and key performance metrics for business lines operating under the London legal entities.

The incumbent is responsible for assisting with the reconciliation and control of assets and liabilities held at the external depositories and correspondent banks of Scotiabank Europe plc for the Fixed Income business line.



Accountabilities 

Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

The incumbent is responsible for performing reconciliations and investigating issues identified and carrying out necessary root cause analysis with a view to eliminate these errors going forward.

Reconciliations include -

Fixed Income failed trades to SmartStream GL account balances.

Fixed Income Repo Cash account, Anvil to GLOSS to SmartStream GL account balance.

Daily verification of the LCH margin process.

Ensure sub ledger accounting reconciles to source system accounting.

Compile and review daily limit monitoring report. Identify all exceptions and raise to originating department.

The incumbent is responsible for completing the daily CASS reconciliation process for both stock and cash in accordance with the CASS regulatory requirements which have been agreed with Compliance.It is imperative the incumbent has excellent communication skills to facilitate this accountability as this has regulatory impact.

Review and monitor Key Risk Indicators relating to the nostro reconciliations and follow up for resolution. Work closely with management in capturing and monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and looking for opportunities for process improvement.

Assist with and support for various management information publications as required by the line manager. For example, assist with the collation and provision of meaningful data from London Operations for inclusion in the monthly London Operational Risk Indicator Dashboard (CORC) and the Operational Oversight Committee (OOC) providing rationale to operational trends.

Actively drive efficiency gains, process improvements and risk mitigation initiatives within Operational Control and across the wider GWO team, as required. Perform business analysis tasks where necessary and lead / track ongoing projects and enhancements.

Provision of coverage for activities within the team to ensure tasks are handled effectively during periods of absence through holiday, sickness and other reasons. The incumbent may be required to be available and provide support outside standard hours in order to satisfy the completion of key internal controls and regulatory reporting requirements. Additionally, this will include shared coverage of early hour processes and responsibilities among the team.

Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Code of Conduct.

Contributes to a high-performance environment and fosters an inclusive work environment, supporting the vison/values/business strategy for the team.

Provide support for internal and external audits including co-ordinating efforts across the team to return questions and requirements from audit.

Contributing to the effective creation and lifecycle management for Risk Events, Issues and Actions associated with GWO London.

Involvement in 1st LOD Operations Risk and Control elements such as the building and maintenance of control libraries across GWO, the annual RCSA process, procedures and the framework around their format.

Regulatory Reporting - Secured Money Market(SMM) Reporting, ensure on a daily basis that all SMM reporting occurs on time and accurately.Any issues should be dealt with in accordance with procedures and escalated via the necessary channels including compliance, Head of Operations and COO.

Regulatory Reporting - Post Trade Transparency Reporting (PTTR), ensure on a daily basis that all SMM reporting occurs on time and accurately. Any issues should be dealt within in accordance with procedures and escalated via the necessary channels including compliance, head of operations and COO.

Regulatory Reporting - Commodities Position Reporting (CPR), ensure on a daily basis that all CPR reporting occurs on time and accurately. Any issues should be dealt within in accordance with procedures and escalated via the necessary channels including compliance, head of operations and COO.

Regulatory Reporting - coordinate any accuracy testing review for all regimes collaborating with Technology, Compliance and GWO Toronto working to drive down the number of reporting errors.

MIS - Create and maintain MIS in accordance with the various reporting requirements Operations Control have and ensure deadlines for reporting are met.


Experience/Education

Good all-round knowledge of front, middle and back-office operations, and the components of each.
Good general knowledge of industry practices, market regulations / regulators, conventions, policies and procedures.
Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written up to and including senior management level.
Excellent time management and organizational abilities in order to develop and conclude projects, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills (good level of Excel competency).
