Contributes to the overall success of the Financial Institutions Group in Europe ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Key member of deal team for all transactions related to assigned portfolio which includes revolvers, term loans, fixed rate loans, Letter of Credit and subscription finance facilities to Investment Trusts, regulated funds, private equity funds and insurance companies including Lloyds of London Capital Providers. The role also covers credit analysis on capital markets / trading lines for the assigned portfolio of counterparties including FX forwards/options/swaps, interest rate swaps, cross-currency swaps and equity forwards / swaps.
Tasks include: analysis of term sheets and due diligence materials; preparation of credit presentations and recommendations for review by banking senior management, risk management and London Credit Committee; negotiation of documentation with clients/other banks including closing procedures culminating in the execution of the transaction. At the Associate Director level, the candidate should be capable of running a deal from start to finish with minimal guidance.
Pro-actively monitor assigned portfolio in order to become cognizant of business and industry dynamics and able to detect changes in credit quality or opportunities for upsizing lines or cross-selling of other Scotiabank products. Escalate concerns and opportunities to supervisors.
Provide high-quality portfolio management on the assigned portfolio with duties to include conducting annual reviews, reviewing compliance certificates and participation in regulatory / KYC processes. Co-ordinating account management with team members and Loan Administration officers, assessing and responding to customer requests for waivers, amendments and the restructuring of credit facilities.
The Associate Director level will be asked to supervise the Associate’s / Analyst’s work on a select number of accounts in order to develop their management and leadership skills.
A low to moderate degree of external client interaction is required for this role including participating in due diligence meetings with CFO, CEOs and Fund Directors of external clients and attending industry conferences as assigned and as supervised by more senior members of the team or the MD & Head of FIG Europe.
Provide occasional cover for other Execution team members during period of absence or heavy workflow.
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Code of Conduct.

Team: 6 (MD, 2 x Directors, AD/Associates/Analysts)
Loan Facilities: ~75 split between Insurance, Investment Trusts, Open Ended funds, PE Funds and other NBFI clients.
Target return metrics for loan portfolio: ROEE > 15%, ROAC > 14%.
FCA and PRA primary regulatory bodies
No sign off limits at the Associate Director level.
Prior experience of corporate banking in the Financial Institutions sector preferred, including experience in specific market sectors as required (i.e. the Lloyd’s of London insurance market, Investment Trusts and Subscription Finance facilities to private equity funds)
Fluency in English with excellent written and oral communication abilities.
Undergraduate degree (2:1 or better)
MBA/CFA is preferable but not required
A high level of energy, commitment and a strong sense of teamwork are needed to succeed in this role.
