Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the Global Banking and Markets in London ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives, particularly with regard to the marketing of Latin American FX and FI products.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.  Provide fundamental analysis of the Latin American and G-10 fixed income and FX markets to Scotiabank’s trading and sales team as well as the bank’s clients.


Accountabilities

Champion a client focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader bankrelationships, systems and knowledge.

Author daily/weekly reports highlighting economic trends, market developments. Provide insight into financial market risks and opportunities for our traders and clients.   

Provide timely and concise analysis of fiscal and monetary policy developments in priority markets; communicate views and opinions effectively and clearly to traders, sales and clients.       

Assist FX and FI sales teams globally in covering clients and building new business relationships by presenting views and strategy ideas which allow for more informed investment or hedging decisions.        
Participate in internal discussions and meetings to determine longer term economic and market forecasts in conjunction with Scotia Economics. 
Maintain and update proprietary databases and economic models.

Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Champions a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Dimensions

Provide analysis and written updates on the Latam and G-10 FX and FI markets.

Analyse fiscal and monetary policy as well as macro-economic developments in the above noted countries and regions.Produce written reports on the above.
Areas of specific focus are Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Peru, UK, US, Canada, Eurozone, Japan.

Monitor regional press and media for news and developments which may bear on market performance.
Build and maintain a network of contact within the Banks’ economist teams in the Latin-America and North-America regions to source data and support his/her analysis

Experience

Solid work experience as a strategist/market economist in a large financial institution dealing with G-10 and emerging market economies.  Strong communication and analytical skills.    

Product knowledge - Expert in Foreign Exchange and Fixed Income markets and be intimately familiar with fiscal and monetary policy implementation.


Familiarity with Bloomberg terminal applications, Macrobond database, MS excel is preferable but not essential.

Specialist knowledge – monetary and fiscal policy formulation and implementation. Impact of multilateral organisations and NGO on policy making and economic development.

Working Conditions

Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
