Contributes to the overall success of the Compliance team in Europe, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Responsible for managing the Data Privacy and Conduct Risk Compliance program in accordance with the Scotiabank Privacy Risk Framework and local regulatory requirements. This will involve supporting Digital and Information Technology and collaboration with Information Security groups on regulatory aspects of Information Security and Cybersecurity.
Responsible for managing the regional Conduct & Culture Compliance program, in accordance with the Scotiabank Risk Culture & Conduct Risk Framework, Global Compliance and local regulatory guidelines.
Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Support the Director, Privacy & Conduct Risk Compliance with all aspects of the implementation of Program initiatives relevant to the function.
Identify and assess the impact of new regulatory requirements relating to Privacy and Conduct Risk & Culture and maintain relevant associated records.
Lead and drive the Development and delivery of training for Privacy, and Conduct Risk & Culture in Scotiabank’s European locations.
Lead the development and maintenance of policies and procedures relating to Privacy, and Conduct Risk & Culture.
While maintaining the independence of the Compliance function, develops trusted relationships with business lines through advice and counsel on how to implement compliance solutions in particular in respect of privacy and conduct into the design of their products, systems and processes.
Develop an understanding how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
Acting as the point of contact and SME on privacy and conduct matters with the Business.

Manage Data Subject Rights requests, breach and incident management and reporting.
Drive the maintenance of the Record of Processing Activities (RoPA) in accordance with European privacy regulations.
Lead the completion of Privacy Impact Assessments and Third-Party risk assessments in accordance with regulatory requirements and Scotiabank procedures.
Advise on record retention requirements for the Bank, in line with European privacy obligations.
Conduct & Culture Compliance
Lead the implementation of Scotiabank’s Conduct Risk & Risk Culture Framework, ensuring that the Bank and its employees, officers, and contingent workers act in conformity with the Bank’s values and its principles for ethical conduct.
Lead the embedding of conduct & culture in everyday operations in Europe.
Drive risk identification and conduct risk assessments in line with the Enterprise model.
Post-secondary academic background - Undergraduate degree preferred
Professional work experience in a data protection role is essential
In-depth understanding of UK and EU data protection legislation and their application in a commercial environment
Recognised qualification in Data Protection (desirable)
Working understanding of the European financial services sector
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively and pragmatically with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels
Strong time management, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities
Well-developed analytical skills, and attention to detail
Comfortable working both independently and in a team environment
